No8 Distillery is a boutique, award-winning distillery in Dunedin, New Zealand, producing handcrafted spirits with a blend of French heritage and Kiwi ingenuity. Utilising locally foraged botanicals and sustainable practices, No8 offers a unique range of gins, liqueurs, and vodkas that reflect the rich flavours of Aotearoa.
No8 Distillery has become synonymous with crafting world-class spirits since 2020 that have earned over 35 global awards, exemplified by the victory of the Horopito Gin in the World's Best NZ Contemporary Gin category.
Our spirits catalogue features a curated selection overseen by Master Distiller Julien Delavoie, who hails from a lineage of French distillers spanning four generations and meticulously crafts spirits that tantalize the palate in Normandy. By crafting Cider, Calvados, Vodka, Rum, and Liqueurs every summer.
Julien's philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that each spirit possesses the innate ability to complement a unique mood or occasion and thus he meticulously creates spirits that are rich in flavour and cater to various states of mind. Our spirits stand apart from the rest, as we employ the practice of foraging native plants, sourcing sustainable ingredients, and adhering to an eco-distillery program by using recycled glass, compostable packaging, and bio-Ink, ensuring its dedication to preserving the environment.
No.8 Distillery comes from the need to get things done with what we had to hand while setting up and installing our distillery during the April 2020 lockdown & fix everything with a No8 wire cable.
Our electric copper still is a beautiful 80L Franken-machine named "Therese" and a new 400L named "Jackie". To honour their Grandmother and Mother. The No.8 attitude carries on in the way that we’ll experiment with different and unconventional ways of extraction to see what we get. In 2016, Julien brought to life their first gin - Horopito Gin, made with 8 main ingredients. It quickly became a favourite among the locals and the second main reason for No8.
The logo had multiple inspirations, including an 8 wire, the onion shape of a still, and the concept of infinite creation. It's coming on an iconic potion bottle, designed and embossed exclusively for No8.
In 2022, No8 Distillery was granted a bronze award by Qualmark, which is an accreditation that acknowledges our dedication to sustainable tourism. Through our unwavering commitment to delivering outstanding tours, tastings, and services, we have become a leading player in the spirits tourism industry in Dunedin."
