Matakana Gin Co is a boutique distillery crafting small-batch gin using local citrus, sustainable botanicals, and pure artesian water from the Matakana region.
The distillery combines traditional methods with a strong local ethos, using citrus grown on nearby farms and water sourced from a sandstone aquifer 170 metres below ground near the Mahurangi River.
Distilled in a 500L copper column still, their gin showcases a balance of traditional botanicals — including juniper, angelica, cassia, liquorice root, rose, and hibiscus - with vibrant Matakana citrus like lemon, tangelo, and grapefruit. The result is a smooth, aromatic spirit that captures the essence of the local terroir.
Matakana Gin Co also celebrates local artistry, featuring bottle labels designed by regional artists that reflect the area’s landscape and creative spirit. Their flagship 700ml bottle is complemented by minis and seasonal gift boxes.
